The collective

Looking for collaborators!

Guests are always very welcome (:

We are currently working on a comprehensive self-concept in which we define our values and structures.
We will share it with you once it’s ready.
Until then, here’s a small glimpse:

Silberburg has been a self-managed pub in Nürtingen for many years.
A place to simply exist without the pressure to consume, for encounters and exchange,
for political groups and projects, to enjoy concerts and
parties, to drink affordable beer or soda.
A place for the lived idea of working together as a collective.

How is Silberburg organized?
The people working in the Silberburg collective organize the pub operations, concerts, parties, and other events together.
Without formal hierarchies – meaning without a boss.
We also try to recognize and dismantle informal hierarchies that (can) emerge over time.
Decisions are made by consensus.
Consensus is a decision-making process that results in an outcome that all participants can (and want to) support.
Running the pub as a collective is both a political and personal decision for us.
The goal is to work together in solidarity and to combine a sense of responsibility for the project with personal creative freedom.
In a way that keeps things running smoothly and feels meaningful and enjoyable for everyone.

What are Silberburg’s goals and principles?
Power structures and discrimination prevent people from living together freely, in solidarity, and with care—without violence and oppression.
Silberburg therefore aims to be a space that is critical of hierarchies and discrimination,
anti-fascist, queer, and feminist.
We want to live up to this aspiration, carry these values outward, and continue working to dismantle hierarchies, discrimination, and social, structural, and spatial barriers within Silberburg.
In doing so, we want to contribute to social change.
We aim to create a space that many different people can use comfortably and safely, and where they can participate in the collective.

As a collective, we maintain and develop a space in which we create diverse offerings, foster connections, and strive for social transformation.

In concrete terms, this means:

Maintaining and developing the space by…
… creating and demonstrating alternatives to capitalism through collective structures and networking
… renovating and expanding the building
… working to reduce barriers
… using the space for learning and exchange
… and, if possible, buying the building

Fostering connections by…
… providing space for networking
… supporting ourselves and others in solidarity
… connecting locally, beyond, and with other collectives
… offering resources for political work, art, etc.

Enabling social change by…
… questioning capitalism, society, and systems of power
… reducing discrimination
… questioning consumption
… making the space safer
… enabling learning
… understanding ourselves as a political space
… questioning and dismantling hierarchies

Strengthening the collective by…
… working towards fairly paid collective labor
… improving collaboration within the collective
… presenting ourselves authentically and promoting our work
… fostering diversity and intersectional thinking
… aiming to grow the collective
… supporting one another
… learning together
… promoting financial stability
… distributing work as fairly as possible
… orienting ourselves around shared values
… strengthening the team and continuing education

Creating diverse offerings by…
… providing space for art
… enabling encounters across social divides
… creating a space for learning
… supporting ourselves and others
… providing space for independent political work
… promoting cooperation instead of competition

We’re not interested in profit—we’re interested in maintaining and developing this space!
Would you like to stop by?
We’re looking forward to seeing you!
Whether as a guest, visitor, organizer, or collaborator 🙂

Visitors can, for example…
– hang out at the bar, on the sofa, in the courtyard, or on chairs—talking or staying quiet as they like
– drink and eat, or neither
– play darts, table football, card or board games, or read the newspaper
– give us feedback (for example via our feedback mailbox)

Organizers can, for example…
– join one of our meetings or send us an email and propose their event idea
– organize art projects, workshops, concerts, parties, talks, political meetings, jam sessions, fundraising events, or similar

We are looking for collaborators for the following tasks…
– working at the bar or in the kitchen during opening hours
– shopping, cleaning, tidying up, repairs, ordering supplies
– managing social media and designing flyers
– participating in the awareness team (which deals with barriers, hierarchies, and emotional labor/support in the pub and at events)
– taking part in team meetings (where organizational and structural matters are discussed)

Any questions?
